What began as an ordinary morning on the banks of the Hooghly river near Kumortuli in Kolkata turned into a gruesome discovery, shocking locals and authorities alike. A group of yoga enthusiasts, who had gathered for their daily session, witnessed a suspicious incident that led to the uncovering of a horrific crime.
Around 7:30 am, two women arrived in a white-and-blue cab carrying a purple trolley suitcase. Struggling to move it towards the river, their unusual behavior caught the attention of bystanders. When locals questioned them, the women became evasive and refused to let anyone touch the suitcase, raising suspicions further.

Sensing something was wrong, the group of yoga practitioners alerted a police officer. Upon investigation, authorities discovered a body wrapped in bloodstained clothes inside the suitcase.
Victim Identified, Two Women Arrested
The suspects, identified as Falguni Ghosh and her mother Aarati Ghosh, were arrested on the spot. The deceased was later identified as Sumita Ghosh, Falguni’s aunt-in-law.

Initially, the women claimed the suitcase contained the body of their deceased Labrador. When pressed further, they changed their statement, saying it was the body of a relative who had died by suicide. However, their actions raised serious doubts, as disposing of a body in such a manner is illegal and highly suspicious.
Investigation Reveals Chilling Details
Further investigation led the police to CCTV footage from Madhyamgram, a suburb of Kolkata, showing the suspects transporting the suitcase in a cart before boarding a taxi. The footage contradicts earlier assumptions that they had arrived by train from Kazipara. Police have also recovered a train ticket, adding another layer to the investigation.

Locals in Madhyamgram claim the suspects had been living in rented accommodation for over two years. Neighbors reported seeing unknown visitors at night, but the family largely kept to themselves. A woman was allegedly seen visiting the house a few days ago, further deepening the mystery.
Kolkata Reels from Another Shocking Crime
This incident follows closely on the heels of the Tangra triple murder case, in which two women and a young girl were found dead at their home. The men of the family, Pranay and Prasun Dey, crashed their car on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in what they initially claimed was a suicide attempt. However, police later determined that the women had been murdered, and the men were prime suspects.
The Kolkata police continue to investigate the Kumortuli suitcase murder, working to uncover the motive behind the gruesome crime. Meanwhile, the city remains on edge as two horrifying murder cases unfold within a short span of time.
