KK, 53, died while performing at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday evening and according to the preliminary autopsy report, he died of cardiac arrest.
Mumbai: The mortal remains of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, were brought to his Mumbai residence on Thursday morning and according to sources, his last rites will be performed in the city today.
KK, 53, died while performing at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday evening and according to the preliminary autopsy report, he died of cardiac arrest. Sources added that the auditorium was packed with an audience almost double its capacity and questions are being raised on the lack of ventilation.
“The initial report suggested that the singer died because of myocardial infarction. There was no foul play behind his death. Clinical examination also found that the singer was having prolonged cardiac issues,” an officer told the media.
The singer was also given a gun salute by the West Bengal government on Wednesday. KK’s body was briefly kept at the Rabindra Sadan premise in Kolkata for fans to pay tributes. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and KK’s family members paid floral tributes to him. After homage was paid to him, his body was flown in to Mumbai by his family members. His family members reached Kolkata on Wednesday morning.
The Kolkata Police on Wednesday morning had lodged an unnatural death case at the New Market police station into the sudden death of the singer and a postmortem was carried out at the state-run SSKM Hospital, the police said.
Wednesday morning, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter and wrote, “The sudden and untimely demise of the Bollywood playback singer KK shocks and saddens us. My colleagues have been working from last night to ensure that all requisite support is given for necessary formalities, his rites and to his family now. My deep condolences.”
