A dramatic shootout at the Government Medical College in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in the tragic death of a police officer and a gangster.
The incident unfolded when members of a gang known as the Shunoo Group, reportedly led by Vasudev, were pursued by a police team. The chase culminated in a confrontation on the medical college premises, where the gangsters attempted to evade arrest.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one gangster was fatally shot by the police. However, the confrontation proved costly for law enforcement as well, with Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma sustaining critical injuries after being struck by a bullet to the head.
Despite receiving preliminary medical treatment at Kathua in Kashmir, Sharma’s condition remained grave, prompting authorities to transfer him to Pathankot in Punjab. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
The loss of Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma was mourned by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who paid tribute to the officer’s valour and courage. Sinha hailed Sharma’s bravery in confronting and neutralizing a notorious gangster, emphasizing that his sacrifice will be remembered with reverence. Expressing condolences to Sharma’s family, Sinha vowed that every drop of the fallen officer’s blood would be avenged.

Furthermore, Sinha reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the Jammu and Kashmir Police, praising their dedication and resilience in the face of adversity. He pledged to create a fear-free environment in the region and assured that justice would be served for the fallen hero.
