The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan in response to a petition challenging the title of her pregnancy memoir, ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible’. The notice was served after advocate Christopher Anthony raised objections against the use of the term “bible” in the book’s title.
A single-judge bench led by Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia issued the notice based on Anthony’s petition, which also names the book’s sellers. The court has requested an explanation from Kareena Kapoor Khan regarding the choice of the word “bible” in the title.
Anthony, a social worker from Jabalpur, expressed concerns in his petition that the use of “bible” in the title could be offensive to the sentiments of the Christian community.
He emphasised that the Bible is a sacred text for Christianity worldwide and should not be compared to the pregnancy journey of Kareena Kapoor Khan. Anthony alleged that the actor utilised the term for “cheap publicity” for her book.
Initially, Anthony sought to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Kareena Kapoor Khan with the police. However, when his request was denied, he pursued legal action through a lower court to file a formal complaint against her. Subsequently, the lower court dismissed his complaint after failing to establish how the use of the word “bible” in the title could be deemed offensive.
The book, released in 2021, details the 43-year-old actor’s pregnancy experience and offers guidance and tips for expecting mothers, covering topics such as diet, fitness, self-care, and nursery preparation.
“Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The Ultimate Manual for Moms-To-Be” has garnered attention due to its title, prompting legal scrutiny from Mr. Anthony over concerns of potential religious insensitivity.
As the case progresses in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, further deliberation will determine the resolution of this issue surrounding the publication’s title and its perceived impact on religious sentiments.
