Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is facing significant backlash from her own party over her controversial remarks on the three farm laws, which were repealed by the Modi government after mass protests by farmers.
Ranaut, the newly elected MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, initially suggested that the farm laws should be reinstated, but later apologized after the BJP distanced itself from her comments.
In a statement, Kangana Ranaut clarified that her remarks were her personal opinions and did not reflect the BJP’s official stance. She further acknowledged her role as a party representative, saying, “I have to keep in mind that I am not just an artist but also a BJP worker. My opinions should not be personal and should be aligned with the party’s stand.”
BJP Distances Itself from Ranaut’s Remarks
Despite her apology, Ranaut’s comments have continued to stir controversy within the BJP, particularly in Punjab, a state heavily impacted by the farm law protests.
BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill was among those who criticized Ranaut’s statements, describing them as “baseless and illogical” and detrimental to the party’s image.

“I am grateful to the BJP for distancing themselves from Kangana Ranaut’s comments,” Shergill said. “As a Punjabi, I must say that Kangana’s consistent rant against the Sikh community and farmers is damaging all the good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Punjab.”
Jaiveer Shergill emphasized that PM Modi’s bond with Punjab and its farmers should not be judged through Ranaut’s statements, which he described as “irresponsible.” He reiterated that Modi’s relationship with Punjab and its farmers remains “unshakable.”
Party Leaders Respond
Another BJP spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, addressed the controversy on social media, stating that Ranaut’s comments were her “personal statements” and did not represent the BJP’s official view on the farm bills. Bhatia clarified that the party had no involvement in her remarks and that she was not authorized to speak on the issue.

Kangana Ranaut had previously sparked outrage when she commented that “farmers themselves should demand” the reinstatement of the farm laws, acknowledging that her statement could be controversial. Her comments drew criticism from Congress and other political parties, further fueling the controversy.
Past Controversies
This is not the first time Kangana Ranaut has been reprimanded by her party. Last month, she faced criticism for stating that India could have faced a “Bangladesh-like situation” during the farmers’ protests if the government had not taken strong measures.
In addition to her political controversies, Kangana Ranaut is also embroiled in a separate dispute over her upcoming film Emergency. The film, which is based on the 1975 Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is facing allegations of misrepresentation of the Sikh community, leading to delays in obtaining a censor certificate.
Despite these controversies, Ranaut remains a prominent figure in the BJP, and her recent apology aims to repair the damage caused by her remarks. However, the political fallout continues as BJP leaders work to distance the party from her controversial statements.
