A soldier was killed and four others injured during a fierce encounter with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday. The Indian Army reported that a “Pakistani person” was also killed in the clash and confirmed the injuries of two soldiers.
Sources suggest the attack appears to be the work of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), known for several assaults before the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan in February 2021. “This is an aggressive action and clearly an escalation along the LoC,” stated a senior officer.
The incident occurred just a day after ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, asserting that the Indian Army would overcome any terror threats.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Army mentioned an exchange of fire with unidentified persons but did not explicitly name the Pakistan Army or terrorists.
The statement read, “There has been an exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector on the Line of Control. One Pakistani person has been killed while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated. Operations are in progress.”

Amid rising terror incidents, PM Modi last month chaired a review meeting to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He consulted with Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, receiving a comprehensive overview of the security situation and the counter-terrorism operations being conducted by the armed forces.
Additionally, the Prime Minister spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and was briefed on the local administration’s efforts. PM Modi has instructed the authorities to deploy the full spectrum of the armed forces’ counter-terror capabilities.
