India has reacted strongly on Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir’s recent statement describing Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan’s “jugular vein”. In a firm response, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Pakistan’s only connection to Kashmir is its obligation to vacate the areas it continues to occupy illegally.
“How can anything foreign be a jugular vein? Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory of India. Pakistan’s only relationship with it is to vacate the illegally occupied territories,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters.
Pak army chief’s comment on Kashmir and Hindus
General Munir, while addressing a gathering of overseas Pakistanis, referred to them as ambassadors of the nation and urged them to uphold Pakistan’s “superior ideology and culture”. He reiterated the two-nation theory, which served as the ideological foundation for Pakistan’s creation.
“Our ancestors believed that we are fundamentally different from Hindus—our religion, customs, traditions, thoughts, and aspirations differ. This formed the basis of the two-nation theory,” Munir said, encouraging the diaspora to pass on this narrative to their children.
On the Kashmir issue, Munir emphasized, “Our position is absolutely clear—it was our jugular vein, and it will remain our jugular vein. We will not forget it, and we will continue to support our Kashmiri brothers in their heroic struggle.”

Asif Munir’s statement provides more clarity on Pak army’s role in Indo-Pak relations
General Munir’s statements reflect the Pakistani military’s continued role in shaping national policy, particularly regarding relations with India. His reaffirmation of the two-nation theory and emphasis on Islamic identity highlight the army’s efforts to project itself as the guardian of Pakistan’s sovereignty and ideological foundation.
The remarks also underscore that Kashmir remains a core issue in India-Pakistan relations, with no indication of Islamabad softening its stance. The rhetoric, steeped in anti-India sentiment, risks further exacerbating tensions between the two nations.
