In a shocking incident, the body of a 22-year-old Congress worker, Himani Narwal, was found stuffed inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Saturday. The gruesome discovery comes just a day before municipal elections in 33 civic bodies across the state, intensifying political tensions.
Congress Demands High-Level Investigation
The Congress party has strongly condemned the incident, demanding an impartial probe into Narwal’s mysterious death. Narwal was closely associated with party MP Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and was an active participant in Congress campaigns.
“The news of the barbaric murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. This is a blot on the law and order situation of the state. We demand a high-level impartial investigation, and the culprits must face the harshest punishment,” tweeted former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Crime Scene and Police Investigation
Passersby near the Sampla bus stand noticed an abandoned suitcase and alerted the police. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials and forensic experts found Narwal’s body inside. Authorities noted that her neck was wrapped with a dupatta, suggesting strangulation as the possible cause of death. Mehendi was also found on her hands, further deepening the mystery.

Narwal, a resident of Rohtak’s Vijay Nagar area, had been actively participating in Congress events and had frequently shared photos with party leaders, including former CM Hooda’s son, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, and party MLA BB Batra.
Sampla police station in-charge Vijendra Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We have registered a case and are actively investigating the matter. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report,” he said.
Political Fallout and Law and Order Concerns
The tragic murder has sparked outrage within the Congress party, with leaders questioning the Haryana government’s ability to maintain law and order. Congress MLA BB Batra has demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case, stating that Narwal’s death must not be politicized but thoroughly investigated to bring justice to her family.
