Mistry was the second person from outside the Tata family to head the group in the last 142 years of its existence, and could retain his post for just four years.
Condoling his untimely demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi twitted, “The untimely demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess. His passing away is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
NCP chief Sharad Pawar also condoled his death. Pawar tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the shocking news of the untimely demise of the former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry. He was a dynamic and brilliant entrepreneur. We lost one of the brightest star of Corporate World.”
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, in a tweet, said, “Deeply saddened to learn of the unfortunate demise of former Tatasons Chairman Sh Cyrus Mistry Ji in a tragic road accident. Heartfelt condolences to his family & friends. Rest In Peace.”
Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also condoled demised of Mystry. Shekhawat tweeted, “Shocked and saddened by the sudden demise of Cyrus Mistry. An integral part of India’s growth story, Cyrus will be remembered fondly by one and all. Praying for Sadgati of the departed soul and for strength to the grieving family.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, in a tweet, said, “India’s industry has lost a genius and a visionary. Cyrus Mistry was an outstanding leader who contributed significantly to our business landscape. His loss is painful. My condolences to the family.”
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also pad condolences to Cyrus Mystry after his passing away by tweeting, “Pained to learn about the unfortunate demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons. A people-centric business tycoon, his passing away is a loss to the world of enterprise. My heart goes out to his loved ones. Condolences to his family and friends.”
Mystry, a younger son of late Pallonji Mistry had replaced Ratan Tata as executive chairman after he stepped down on turning 75 in 2012. Almost four years later, he was removed as Tata Sons Chairman. To challenge the removal, he had moved the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). He had also alleged mismanagement by Tata Sons.
