New Delhi: In its first after returning to power in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended the free ration scheme by three months on Saturday. The scheme, initiated last in December 2021, was to end by the end of March 2022. The scheme was first initiated in 2020 for three months after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “Our government has decided to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana from March 31 till June 30.” Adityanath also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said his

He added, “The double engine government in Uttar Pradesh (with support from BJP in Centre) always stood beside the people of the state, even during the Covid-19 pandemic. We gave access to free tests, free vaccinations and also ensured that nobody goes hungry. A strong system was present in the country and even in Uttar Pradesh.”
He further added, “We are confident that the scheme will help the people.”
Saturday’s announcement was the first after the BJP government returned to power in the state for the second consecutive term, creating a history of sorts. The announcement is also seen as a target at the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which, the party believes, its victory in Uttar Pradesh will help it perform better.
