A fire broke out on Friday at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, creating panic among devotees and authorities. The blaze erupted in Sector 18 of the Maha Kumbh Nagar area, prompting an immediate response from multiple fire engines that rushed to the scene to douse the flames.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the incident.
Fire Contained, No Loss of Life
“A fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. However, firefighters have managed to bring the blaze largely under control,” said Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which disrupted activities in the pilgrimage site but was swiftly managed by the emergency response teams.
Maha Kumbh Witnesses Record Devotee Turnout
Despite the fire incident, the ongoing Maha Kumbh continues to draw massive crowds. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, over 397.4 million people have taken a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Just two days before the fire, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took a holy dip, reinforcing the spiritual significance of the grand event.

This fire incident comes just a week after another blaze broke out in Prayagraj’s Chatnag Ghat area, where 15 tents caught fire in an open space. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Investigations later revealed that the affected tents were unauthorised.

With millions of devotees flocking to the Maha Kumbh Mela, authorities have intensified fire safety measures to prevent further incidents. The state government and disaster management teams are working closely to ensure adequate precautions are in place to protect pilgrims and campsites.
