Excise policy case: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to interfere with the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy ‘scam’.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma issued notice on the AAP leader’s petition challenging his arrest and the subsequent remand to the ED’s custody, and asked the agency to file its response to it as well as his plea for interim relief of release before April 2, reported by PTI. The judge, in the order, clarified the matter would be taken up for final disposal on April 3 and no adjournment shall be granted.
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested on March 21 and later remanded to the custody of the ED until March 28 by a Delhi court.
Meanwhile, the legal cell of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) carried out widespread demonstrations across all district courts in Delhi, denouncing the arrest of CM Arvind Kejriwal. Lawyers condemned the arrest as illegal, rallying against the BJP and the Central Government. Led by the President of AAP’s Legal Cell, advocate Sanjeev Nasiar, thousands of lawyers voiced their solidarity with Kejriwal, vowing to persist in their protest against an unjust treatment and atrocities committed by the Central Government on Kejriwal.
AAP Legal Cell President Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar said that strong demonstrations were held outside Delhi’s Patiala House, Saket, Tis Hazari, Dwarka, Karkardooma and Rohini Court. The lawyers said that the Central Government is committing atrocities against an elected Chief Minister, this will not be tolerated. Lawyers will fight this battle with full strength from court to road. Today’s demonstration by lawyers proves that when lawyers come out on the road, they come out in thousands. In the coming days also, every lawyer will be standing with Shri Arvind Kejriwal and his Delhi government.
He said that other lawyers also supported us and joined the protest against the arrest of Kejriwal. The protest by the Legal Cell will continue further and all the lawyers will stand in support of Kejriwal who has been arrested in axcise policy case.
Sanjeev Nasiar said that CM Kejriwal has done a lot of work for lawyers. He has provided lawyers with term insurance, medical policy and subsidized electricity facility in the chambers. When lawyers were shot in the Tis Hazari Court, Kejriwal’s soldiers were the first to raise their voice in Parliament. This is a conspiracy, hatched against Kejriwal. In such a situation, the lawyers have decided to support Kejriwal. Delhi’s lawyers are standing with CM and will raise their voice against the atrocities being committed against him, from court to road.
At the same time, Advocate Shekhar Kumar said that the legal cell of AAP demonstrated outside all the district courts of Delhi due to the unconstitutional and undemocratic arrest of Delhi’s popular XM. Aam Aadmi Party’s Lok Sabha candidate Somnath Bharti was also present during the demonstration in Saket District Court.
The lawyers of all the Bar Associations of Delhi have demonstrated on a large scale and told the Central Government that the lawyers of Delhi strongly oppose the arrest of Kejriwal. He said that Arvind Kejriwal is the biggest well-wisher of lawyers. He has taken many important steps for the welfare of lawyers.
