As the 2024 US election counting trends pointed to a resounding Republican victory, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his comeback as President.
In a post on X, Modi referred to Trump as “my friend” and expressed optimism for renewed India-US cooperation. “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory,” Modi wrote.

Republicans’ Stunning Victory in Battleground States
Against predictions of a close race, Trump’s victory marked a sweeping Republican success, with the party taking all seven battleground states—an unexpected shift given the Democrats’ advantage in 2020. Early projections have the Republicans ahead with an electoral vote tally of 315, securing not only the White House but also control of the Senate and a lead in the House of Representatives.

Trump’s Victory Speech: “A Magnificent Victory for the American People”
Addressing supporters, Trump celebrated what he called a “magnificent victory” and spoke about his gratitude for surviving an assassination attempt in July, saying, “God spared my life for a reason.”
He emphasized the Republican campaign as the “greatest political movement of all time,” pledging to focus on national unity, border security, and economic stability. “We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders, and fight for the American people with every breath in my body,” he said.

In his victory address, Trump extended his gratitude to his running mate, JD Vance, his wife Melania, his children, and his supporters. He also acknowledged Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, who has publicly voiced support for Trump throughout the campaign.
