In a heartwarming turn of personal events, former West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh tied the knot with party colleague Rinku Majumdar in an intimate ceremony at his New Town residence on Friday. The wedding, conducted with traditional Bengali customs, was attended by close family and select political well-wishers.
Draped in customary Bengali attire complete with a ‘topor’ (ceremonial headgear), the 60-year-old BJP leader stepped out after the rituals to thank friends, colleagues, and supporters, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who sent flowers and a congratulatory note.
“I thank everyone for their blessings. My personal life will not impact my political responsibilities,” Ghosh told reporters, adding that the marriage was a promise he made to fulfill his late mother’s long-cherished wish.
A Union Born in Eco Park, Finalized During IPL
The newlyweds share a story fit for modern times. According to close friends, Dilip Ghosh and Rinku Majumdar first met during their morning walks at Eco Park in 2021 — a sprawling urban green space in Kolkata developed under the initiative of CM Mamata Banerjee. Their casual friendship blossomed over time, culminating in a proposal during an IPL match in Kolkata earlier this month.
Majumdar, 51, confirmed, “I proposed, and I’m proud he eventually accepted.”
This marks Ghosh’s first marriage, while Majumdar, who has a son from a previous marriage, is tying the knot for the second time.

Political and Personal Cheers
The wedding saw well-wishers from across Bengal’s political landscape. Senior BJP leaders, including state unit president Sukanta Majumdar, paid personal visits to extend their greetings. Interestingly, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari declined to comment, maintaining a stoic silence on the occasion.

Adding a dash of humor to the otherwise formal celebrations, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh posted on X: “Since Eco Park, where the couple first met, is Mamata Banerjee’s creation, her role in this union is undeniable.”
Post-Wedding Plans and Political Commitments
Though the ceremony was intimate, Ghosh made it clear that his political schedule remains unchanged. He is expected to visit his hometown Kharagpur on Saturday and may also participate in a BJP event in Dumdum. When asked about honeymoon plans, Ghosh smiled and replied, “It will happen somewhere in India.”
Dilip Ghosh, a seasoned BJP leader, has been one of the key architects of the party’s growth in West Bengal, holding the state president’s post from 2015 to 2021. His marriage to Rinku Majumdar has generated both political and public curiosity, particularly given his strong image as a single-minded political campaigner.
The couple’s union has not only drawn wishes from political allies but also triggered lighthearted banter across social media, cementing the event as a rare moment of personal joy in Bengal’s often intense political theatre.
