New Delhi: A man who fell into a 40-feet borewell at the DJB plant on Saturday night in West Delhi’s Keshopur Mandi area died and was pulled out after a 12-hour long rescue operation. The man was around 30 years in age and his identification has yet to be made.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, said, “Sad news came that a man who fell into a borewell was found dead. May his soul rest in peace. I would like to thank NDRF, whose team made every possible effort in the 14-hour rescue operation. NDRF has supported the people of Delhi in every difficult time.”

According to the initial report, the Delhi Jal Board has dug the borewell at its plant and the several agencies had initiated the rescue operation by rushing the site.

Delhi Police received a call in this regard at around 1 pm that one man has fell into a deep which has been dug by the Delhi Jal Boart in the mandi area in Keshopur. The Vikaspuri police station receivedthe call prompting multiple agencies into the action. As per the information received, local police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Fire Services (DFS) teams carried out 12-hour long operation. The agencies said that all measures are being taken to take out the victim.
Agencies involved in the rescue works had claimed to adopt all possible approaches to pull the victim out but they have yet to get success. The NDRF, which has expertise for rescue operations during worse circumstances, had chalked out a plan to rescue by digging a new parallel borewell.
Since the incident was reported, Delhi Water Minister Atishi had reached the spot to take stock of preparedness. Atishi on social media platform X, said, “An incident of a person falling into a borewell has come to light in Keshopur. After reaching the spot, I inspected the situation. Rescue work is going on here by NDRF and Water Board. The borewell was in a locked room. Prima facie it seems that an attempt was made to enter by forcefully breaking the lock. Police will investigate it. To ensure that such cases do not come up again, strict orders have been given to the Jal Board that all private and government bore wells lying closed in Delhi should be sealed by welding within 48 hours and a report should be submitted to me.”
Lok Sabha candidates of BJP from West Delhi Lok Sabha seat Kamaljeet Shrawat and other party leaders had also visited the site where the incident took place.
