Delhi Electrocution Murder | In a shocking twist to a suspected accidental electrocution case, Delhi Police have arrested a woman and her lover—who is also her husband’s cousin—for the alleged murder of the woman’s husband, 36-year-old Karan Dev. The man was found dead on July 13 in his Uttam Nagar residence, with initial reports attributing the cause to an accidental electric shock.
According to police, the case took a dramatic turn when Karan’s younger brother, Kunal Dev, recovered an Instagram conversation that revealed a premeditated murder plan involving sedatives and electric shock. The chat, exchanged between Karan’s wife Sushmita and cousin Rahul, led to the registration of a murder FIR and the arrest of both accused.
Sleeping Pills, Electric Shock Used in Alleged Murder Plot
Karan Dev was declared dead at a hospital in Janakpuri on July 13 after being rushed there by his family. At the time, Sushmita told relatives that he had suffered a fatal electric shock at home. While the family initially refused a post-mortem, the police ordered an autopsy due to the victim’s young age and the suspicious nature of his death. His body was sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in Harinagar for examination.
Three days later, on July 16, Kunal Dev submitted a video recording of an Instagram chat between Sushmita and Rahul to the police. The messages detailed how the two allegedly attempted to kill Karan by mixing 15 sleeping pills in his food on July 12.

When the sedatives did not take effect quickly, the pair allegedly discussed alternate ways to kill him.
The chats between the accused
In the messages, Sushmita wrote: “Check once how long it does it takes to die after taking the medicine. It’s been three hours since he ate food. No vomiting, no potty, nothing. And no death yet either. Then what should we do, suggest something.”
Rahul responded: “If you can’t figure anything out, give him a shock.”
Sushmita replied: “How to tie him up for the shock?”
Rahul: “With tape.”
Sushmita: “He’s breathing very slowly.”
Rahul: “Give him all the medicine you have.”
Sushmita: “I can’t get his mouth open. I can pour water in, but I can’t give the medicine. You come here, maybe together we can manage to feed it to him.”
Police say the accused then administered an electric shock to Karan, allegedly by applying current to his finger, while he was under the influence of the sedatives. The plan was to pass it off as a household accident.
Shortly after the act, Sushmita reportedly informed her in-laws, claiming Karan had suffered a shock. The family brought him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.
Initially, both Rahul and the victim’s father objected to the post-mortem. However, police proceeded with the autopsy, which became a critical step in the investigation.
Both Accused Confess, Say Victim Was Abusive
After reviewing the chat, police registered a case and arrested both suspects. During interrogation, both Sushmita and Rahul reportedly confessed to the crime. Police sources said Sushmita revealed that Karan had slapped and abused her a day before Karwa Chauth and frequently demanded money from her.
An investigation is underway, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
