A 17-year-old boy was held on Thursday for allegedly shooting and killing a 55-year-old doctor at a private nursing home in southeast Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Nima Hospital, where the victim, Dr. Javed Akhtar, a practitioner of Unani medicine, was working.
The minor, who came to the hospital with a friend for first-aid treatment, allegedly shot Dr. Akhtar after accusing him of overcharging for the treatment. The other teenager, who was present during the attack, is currently on the run, police said. Both boys live in the same locality, and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered.
Shocking Social Media Post After the Murder
In a disturbing turn of events, the arrested teenager allegedly uploaded a post on social media following the killing. The post, featuring his photograph, bore the chilling caption: “Kar diya 2024 mein murder” (Finally committed murder in 2024).
According to police sources, the incident unfolded after the teenager had received treatment for an injured toe at the hospital the previous night.

He returned to the hospital with his friend on Wednesday, seeking a dressing change for the same injury. After the dressing was completed, the duo requested a prescription and entered Dr. Akhtar’s cabin. Moments later, hospital staff members Gajala Parveen and Md Kamil heard a gunshot. When they rushed into the cabin, they found Dr. Akhtar bleeding from a head wound.
Investigation and Arrest
The police have launched an investigation, questioning a female nurse and her husband in connection with the case. Authorities are also intensifying efforts to apprehend the second teenager involved in the crime.
This tragic incident comes just two months after the gruesome rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata while she was on duty at a state-run hospital, an event that triggered nationwide protests by healthcare professionals. Doctors have since been calling for increased protection for medical staff, especially those working night shifts.
The murder of Dr. Akhtar has left the local community in shock and reignited concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in the country.
