At least 12 people were injured on Friday when a portion of an under-construction site near Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area collapsed, officials confirmed. Rescue operations, led by Delhi Police and Fire Services personnel, are currently in progress.
According to police officials, a distress call was received at 3:55 pm, following which around 10-12 people were pulled out from the debris. The injured were rushed to various hospitals, including AIIMS Trauma Centre and LNJP Hospital.
Authorities have clarified that the incident did not affect the main dome of the 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage monument, but rather a smaller room within its premises.
Visuals from the site showed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel conducting search operations as the area remained cordoned off.
