Aditya, a 17-year-old Dalit boy, tragically ended his life following alleged severe harassment at his village in Uttar Pradesh. The incident has sparked protests from his family, who are demanding justice and accountability from the authorities.
According to Aditya’s uncle, Vijay Kumar, the teenager, was invited to a birthday party in the village, where he faced brutal assault. Vijay described the ordeal, stating, “He was beaten up in a naked condition and urinated upon by four men.” The family claims the incident took place on December 20, but they only learned of the details the following morning after Aditya returned home late at night and recounted the events.
Protest and Accusations
Following Aditya’s suicide, his family carried his body to protest outside the office of the Superintendent of Police in Basti, demanding justice. Vijay alleged that police initially refused to register their complaint and harassed the boy further, which ultimately pushed him to take his own life.
“Despite our efforts, the authorities did not register our complaint for three days. Their negligence and lack of action led to this tragedy,” Vijay said.

Circle Officer (CO) Pradeep Kumar Tripathi confirmed the incident, stating, “A boy named Aditya hanged himself, and a case has been registered at PS Kaptanganj. The case has been filed under relevant sections. The reason is suspected to be mutual differences.” Tripathi assured the public of a thorough investigation and promised strict action against the culprits.
Societal Backwardness and Need for Reform
This tragic incident highlights the deep-rooted caste-based discrimination and regressive thinking still prevalent in some parts of society. It underscores the urgent need for systemic reforms and societal awareness to address harassment, bullying, and caste-based violence.
The family’s protest reflects the broader demand for accountability and justice, emphasizing the need for authorities to act decisively against such heinous crimes.
