Bihar Assembly Election 2025: A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Patna on Friday to assess the preparations for the forthcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
The team also includes Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The ECI’s visit comes just weeks before the expected announcement of the Bihar election schedule. With the Assembly’s term set to end on November 22, elections in the state must be concluded before that date.
In a post on social media platform X, the ECI stated, “ECI delegation led by CEC Gyanesh Kumar and ECs Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi arrives in Patna today to review poll preparedness for forthcoming Bihar Assembly Elections.”
Observers Briefed Ahead of Election Announcement
Ahead of the delegation’s visit, the ECI held a detailed briefing for General, Police, and Expenditure Observers who will be deployed as Central Observers for the Bihar Assembly elections and certain bye-elections. The briefing took place at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi.

A total of 425 officers attended the meeting, including 287 IAS officers, 58 IPS officers, and 80 officers from services such as IRS, IRAS, and ICAS.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar described the Observers as “the beacons of democracy.” He instructed them to thoroughly familiarise themselves with all election laws, rules, and guidelines, provide direct field-level feedback, and ensure strict and impartial compliance during the electoral process.
