Nikita Singhania Arrest — How police traced her to Gurugram: In a tragic and highly publicized case, Bengaluru police have arrested Nikita Singhania, the estranged wife of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash, on charges of abetment to suicide. Nikita was tracked down to Gurugram, Haryana, while her mother, Nisha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, were apprehended in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The fourth accused, Nikita’s uncle Sushil Singhania, remains at large.

All three arrested individuals have been remanded to judicial custody for two weeks, police sources told a news agency.

Following the filing of the abetment to suicide case by Atul’s family, the Singhanias locked up their home in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and went into hiding. Bengaluru police’s investigation team faced significant challenges tracking the accused due to their use of WhatsApp calls, which made them difficult to trace.

The breakthrough came when Nikita made a conventional phone call to a close relative. Police traced the call’s tower location to a PG accommodation in Gurugram’s Rail Vihar area. She was detained and compelled to call her mother, Nisha, leading the police to Jhusi town in Prayagraj, where Nisha and Anurag were hiding.

Custody and Transit to Bengaluru

Police ensured careful handling of the accused’s transit to Bengaluru due to public outrage over Atul’s death. To prevent potential altercations or disruptions, the accused were transported on a late-night flight with heightened security. Once in Bengaluru, they underwent medical examinations before being presented to the magistrate and subsequently sent to prison.

Bengaluru police encountered several obstacles during the operation:

Untraceable Communication: The Singhania family exclusively used WhatsApp calls, complicating digital tracking efforts.

Frequent Relocation: Nikita changed her location daily to evade detection, while her mother and brother hid in a remote town.

Child Custody Concerns: Authorities had to arrange care for Atul and Nikita’s four-year-old son, who was entrusted to a relative.

Who is Nikita Singhania and the case against her

Nikita Singhania is the estranged wife of Atul Subhash. Moments before dying by suicide, Subhash alleged that he is taking the extreme step under duress from Singhania and her family.

Nikita has claimed during interrogation that she was not responsible for Atul’s distress, alleging instead that she was harassed by him. However, Atul’s detailed 24-page suicide note and 80-minute video paint a different picture. In his final message, he accused Nikita and her family of filing false dowry and cruelty cases against him to extort money, demanding a settlement amount of Rs 3 crore.

Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, filed the police complaint, which revealed that Atul had planned his suicide at least 15 days before the incident. He had searched legal issues online and written his note three days prior to his death.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

Atul’s death has sparked widespread outrage, particularly regarding the misuse of dowry laws. Police continue to search for Sushil Singhania and are reviewing evidence to strengthen the case against the accused. Meanwhile, Atul’s family has expressed their intent to gain custody of his child, asserting their commitment to ensuring his welfare.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved marital disputes and alleged misuse of legal provisions. Authorities are urging the public to wait for the legal process to unfold as they continue their investigation into this heartbreaking tragedy.
