New Delhi: In a veiled attack, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal linked the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan to the Gujarat polls. Khan was arrested on Friday following his interrogation in the morning and raids by the sleuths of Delhi Police.
In the raids, the Delhi Police teams found weapons and cash worth Rs 24 lakh from Khan’s aides. The police said during the raid against Khan and his business partner Hamid Ali Khan Masood Usman, a beretta and some cartridges were seized. The weapon was seized during a raid at Kausar Imam Siddiqui’s home. Siddiqui is an AAP worker and a close associate of Amanatullah Khan.
Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said, “First they arrested Satyendra Jain. They are not able to present any evidence even after repeatedly being asked by the court. Then they raided Manish’s house, nothing was found. Now Amanatullah has been arrested, will arrest many more MLAs. Looks like they are suffering a lot in Gujarat.”
The national convenor of AAP has been campaigning hard in poll-bound Gujarat and is looking to make a cut in the state ruled by the BJP.
Khan, an Okhla MLA, was summoned for questioning around 12 pm on Friday in connection with the case, which was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020. The Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board had on Thursday night posted a snide tweet about the summons and claimed that he has been called as he built a new office of the Waqf board.
The ACB reports to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, a representative of the BJP-led government at the Centre. The ACB had sent a notice to Khan to appear for questioning over allegations of illegal appointment in the Delhi Waqf Board. The Waqf Board oversees the administration of Islamic property dedicated to welfare causes.
Saxena had earlier cleared the way for the CBI to prosecute the Delhi Waqf Board Chairman in the case registered against him in 2016.
