A case has been registered against Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna following a controversy over explicit videos allegedly depicting him in compromising situations with multiple women. The videos surfaced on social media shortly after he cast his vote on April 26 during the Phase 2 elections.
Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JDS chief and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, has vehemently denied the allegations and has lodged a complaint asserting that the circulated videos have been manipulated.
In response to the escalating situation, the Karnataka government has assembled a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter.
The decision to establish the SIT was prompted by a recommendation from the state women’s commission under the Siddaramaiah government, urging swift action.
The scandal revolves around explicit videos purportedly filmed by the MP and disseminated widely within the Hassan constituency. Subsequently, a woman has come forward and filed a police complaint against Prajwal Revanna, accusing him of sexual assault. She alleges that she was subjected to multiple instances of abuse between 2019 and 2022.
The complainant has also claimed that Prajwal Revanna behaved inappropriately during a video call with her daughter and engaged in lewd conversations. Additionally, she has alleged that Prajwal’s father, HD Revanna, also assaulted her in the absence of his wife, and that she fears for her life and the safety of her family.
The situation has incited a political uproar between the JDS and the BJP. BJP leader Devaraje Gowda has accused the HD Deve Gowda family, including Prajwal Revanna, of serious wrongdoing, citing a pen drive containing explicit videos allegedly used for coercion.
Prajwal Revanna, who is the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, departed for Germany shortly after the videos surfaced online. He maintains that the videos have been manipulated to defame him and sway voters against him.
The BJP has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna amid the controversy, while JDS leaders are urging for the facts to be revealed through the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, Congress leaders have criticized the BJP for allegedly facilitating Prajwal Revanna’s departure from the country during the scandal.
