Nitish Kumar expands cabinet; maximum seats bagged by RJD

A total of 31 ministers were added in the two-member cabinet.

Patna: A few days after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar switched sides to join hands with RJD and took oath as the CM for the record eighth time, he expanded his cabinet on Tuesday and inducted 31 MLAs. The ministers were inducted from various parties of the Mahagathbandhan but will mostly from RJD.

From RJD, Tej Pratap Yadav, Surendra Yadav, Lalit Yadav, Kumar Sarvjeet, Surendra Ram, Shahnawaz Alam, Sameer Mahaseth, Bharat Mandal, Anita Devi and Sudhakar Singh were sworn-in.

JDU ministers, including Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Ashok Choudhary, Sanjay Jha, Madan Sahni, Jayant Raj, Sheela Mandal, Bijendra Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Sunil Kumar and Jama Khan, were retained.

Congress and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) got representation in the cabinet with Afaque Alam and Murari Lal Gautam being sworn-in. From HAM, Santosh Suman took oath while the only Independent candidate in the Grand Alliance, Sumit Kumar Singh, also took oath.

On August 10, after taking oath, in his address, Kumar had said, “I did not want to be the Chief Minister after the 2020 election results but I was put under pressure…ask the people in the party what have they been reduced to…I have not even spoken to you in two months.”
