Kejriwal’s arrest: Amid call to gherao Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence against CM Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday staged protest across the city. Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Somnath Bharti were among the scores of AAP members detained by police on Tuesday as they gathered at the Patel Chowk here to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“AAP workers are being taken into custody and taken towards Gurgaon Border. When asked, they were not even able to tell where they were taking them. Modi’s fear is visible on the faces of the police force on the streets of the national capital. Dictatorship will not last long,” the Aam Aadmi Party said.

AAP MLA Somnath Bharti tweeted, “Detained by @DelhiPolice for no rhyme or reason alongwith Dy Speaker @rakhibirla and many volunteers of AAP and supporters of Sri @ArvindKejriwal Ji. It’s shocking to see that while the Delhi Police are arresting peacefully protesting AAP supporters, they are doing nothing to stop @BJP4India.”

Meanwhile, the opposition BJP also took out a mega march seeking CM Kejriwal’s resignation. Hundreds of saffron party leaders and workers reached near the Ferozshah Kotla stadium and marched towards the Delhi Secretariat. The BJP worker demanding immediate resignation of Kejriwal from the CM post.

The Delhi CM was arrested on Thursday evening by the ED from his residence in connection with Delhi Liquor Policy ‘scam’ and was sent to 6-day ED custody a day later. To oppose the ED’s action, the entire brass of the party has started to protest by taking to the streets. The party has also got support of its INDIA block allies as they all have condemned the agency’s action against a sitting CM and Convener of a national party.
