According to a report from a Kannada news website Public TV, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker into custody in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe blast in Bengaluru.
The BJP worker, identified as Saiprasad, was reportedly apprehended from Thirthahalli in Karnataka’s Shimoga district.
NIA officials have summoned Saiprasad for questioning, as per the report. The authorities conducted raids on the homes and a mobile shop belonging to two Muslim youths in Thirthahalli last week.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Saiprasad had been in contact with these individuals, leading to his apprehension for questioning.
The NIA took over the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case on March 13 and subsequently, arrested Muzammil Shareef last month, who is believed to be the key conspirator of the blast.
Shareef’s arrest followed multiple raids conducted across various locations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The agency had initially identified Mussavir Shazeeb Hussain as the main accused, alleged to have carried out the blast, along with another conspirator, Abdul Matheen Taha. However, both Hussain and Taha remain at large.
Authorities have disclosed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the blast at the eatery situated on ITPL road in Bengaluru’s Brookefield neighborhood on March 1.
The explosion resulted in injuries to several customers and hotel staff, as well as causing significant damage to the establishment.
On March 1, an individual entered The Rameshwaram Cafe and left behind a bag containing an improvised explosive device (IED) with a timer set for an hour before departing the scene. The detonation of the IED resulted in the injury of nine individuals present at the cafe during the time of the blast.
