Actor Prakash Raj, known for his outspoken criticism of the Narendra Modi government, found himself at the center of social media speculation on Thursday as rumours swirled that he would be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
However, the actor swiftly put an end to the speculation with a sarcastic clarification on X (formerly Twitter), dismissing the reports.

In response to a viral post claiming that he would join the BJP at 3 pm, Prakash Raj wrote, “I guess they tried. must have realised they were not rich enough (ideologically) to buy me.. what do you think friends #justasking.”
The post by a user named ‘The Skin Doctor’ had garnered significant attention before the actor’s rebuttal.
This isn’t the first time Prakash Raj has been approached by political parties. In January, he revealed that three political parties were vying to enlist his support for the 2024 elections.
However, he expressed skepticism, stating that he believes parties are interested in him not for his ideology but because of his vocal criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I don’t want to get into the trap,” the 58-year-old actor remarked during the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF).
Prakash Raj, known for his stellar performances in films like Singham and Wanted ventured into politics by contesting as an Independent candidate from Bengaluru Central in the 2019 general elections, albeit unsuccessfully.
With the Lok Sabha elections slated to be held in seven phases starting April 19 and the counting of votes scheduled for June 4, speculation surrounding potential political affiliations is running rife in the Indian political landscape. However, Prakash Raj’s recent clarification has put an end to any rumours of him joining the BJP.
