Ghazipur: The burial of jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari took place amid heightened security on Saturday at Uttar Pradesh’s Kali Bagh in Mohammadabad area.
Mukhtar Ansari had died reportedly due to cardiac arrest. The administration has designated the family graveyard in Kali Bagh to perform the last rites of Ansari. A sea of crowd appeared to pay their last respects.
To avoid any untoward incident, the law enforcement agencies have tightened security in entire Ghazipur district and close vigil is being ensured everywhere.
Security has also been tightened in the surrounding districts of Ghazipur. The body of Mukhtar Ansari was brought to his native place following a post-mortem examination which took place at the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda district. The police had made an elaborate arrangement on a 400-kilometre-long route between both the places while shifting his body.
As per media reports, a convoy of nearly one dozen police vehicles besides ambulances accompanied the vehicle in which Ansari’s body was kept. The convoy passed through Prayagraj, Kaushambi and Varanasi before entering Ghazipur district, the hometown of Mukhtar Ansari.
Both the sons of the Mukhtar Ansari, his wife and cousins were also with his body thoughout the entire route. The UP Police was on alert and was maintaining tight vigil in the areas from where the convoy passed. The route was planned in a manner to make it a safe passage for Ansari’s body.
Umar Ansari, the son of Mukhtar Ansari, has alleged that his father was subjected to slow poisoning. However, authorities have refuted such allegations.
According to reports, Mukhtar Ansari was transferred to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail in an unconscious state and the hospital’s principal, Suneel Kaushal, confirmed that Ansari passed away at the hospital due to cardiac arrest.
