On Friday, the official X account of the “Dragon Ball” series issued a statement confirming Toriyama’s demise on March 1 due to acute subdural haematoma.
Subdural haematoma, the underlying cause of Toriyama’s passing, is a serious medical condition characterised by the accumulation of blood between the skull and the surface of the brain.
Though his physical presence may have departed, the indelible mark of Akira Toriyama’s creativity will continue to inspire generations to come.
The statement expressed sorrow over the loss of a creative genius who had captivated audiences worldwide with his imaginative storytelling and dynamic characters.
Toriyama’s studio, Bird Studio, lamented the untimely end of a prolific career, noting that he had several projects in progress, infused with his trademark enthusiasm.
Despite the premature farewell, his legacy of manga titles and artwork endures as a testament to his unparalleled talent and boundless imagination.

One of the highest-selling and most influential manga series, ‘Dragon Ball’ had debuted in 1984. Its enduring popularity has led to the creation of numerous anime adaptations, films, and video games, solidifying Toriyama’s status as a cultural icon.
