Two women Naxalites were killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
A senior police official said credible input was received in the morning about members of the Gatta Local Organisation Squad (LOS) of Maoists camping in a forest near Modaske village in Etapalli taluka. Acting on the tip-off, police launched an operation from Aheri along with five units of the C-60 force, the specialised anti-Naxal commando squad of Gadchiroli police. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) also assisted by laying the outer cordon.
According to officials, when the C-60 contingent entered the forest, they were met with indiscriminate firing from Maoists. Security forces retaliated, resulting in the deaths of two women Naxalites.
Weapons and Maoist Literature Seized
During the subsequent search, police recovered the bodies of the two women Naxalites along with an automatic AK-47 rifle, a sophisticated pistol, live ammunition, a large quantity of Naxal literature, and other belongings.
The police said the anti-Naxal operation in the region was still underway.
