In a significant breakthrough in Jharkhand’s anti-Naxal operations, two Maoists, including a top area commander of the banned Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), surrendered before police in Chatra district on Friday, officials confirmed.
The surrendered Maoists were identified as Kunal alias Kuldeep and Rohini Ganjhu alias Rohini Singh.
“This surrender marks a significant step towards the goal of making Jharkhand Naxal-free,” said Sunil Bhaskar, Inspector General (Zonal), Bokaro Range.
Kunal Had 16 Cases and ₹1 Lakh Reward
Kunal served as the area commander of TSPC, a splinter group of the CPI (Maoist). According to police, he had 16 criminal cases registered against him in Chatra and Palamu districts. A reward of ₹1 lakh had also been announced for his arrest.
Over 10 cases were pending against Rohini Ganjhu, officials added.

The Maoists surrendered an SLR (self-loading rifle), a semi-automatic weapon, and 185 live cartridges. The surrender was made during a special programme organized under the ‘Nayi Disha–Ek Nayi Pahal’ initiative at the Chatra district collectorate.
Part of Jharkhand’s Anti-Naxal Push
Jharkhand police have intensified their crackdown on Left Wing Extremism in the state. The surrender is being seen as part of a broader push to rehabilitate active Maoists and encourage them to return to the mainstream.
“We are committed to ending Naxalism in Jharkhand and bringing peace and development to affected areas,” Bhaskar added.
