Kolkata: The Left Front bloc in West Bengal has announced its candidates in 16 seats of the state for the impending Lok Sabha polls. Of the 16 names, only two old-timers have been retained while 14 candidates will enter the Lok Sabha poll fray for the first time.
Meanwhile, just before the CPI(M)’s announcement, the Indian Secular Front (ISF) announced its decision to go solo in the Lok Sabha polls and further announced the names of eight candidates. Sources said the ISF and the Left Front could not conclude a seat-sharing deal and the former decided to go solo.
The names of the 16 Left Front candidates were announced by its chairman and CPI(M) leader Biman Bose from the Alimuddin Street headquarters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Bose said of the 16 names, 13 are CPI(M) leaders, while the rest are from the Forward Bloc, RSP and CPI. On the leaders who were retained by the CPI(M), Bose said, “Sujan Chakraborty of the CPI(M) will fight from the Dumdum seat and Biplab Bhatta of the CPI will fight from Midnapore.”
