Khan, an Okhla MLA, was summoned for questioning around 12 pm in connection with the case, which was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020.
New Delhi: Moments after questioning him, the Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday conducted a raid at Delhi Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan’s house and five other locations linked to him in a two-year-old corruption case related to alleged illegal appointments in the Delhi Waqf Board.
Khan, an Okhla MLA, was summoned for questioning around 12 pm in connection with the case, which was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2020.
The Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board had on Thursday night posted a snide tweet about the summons and claimed that he has been called as he built a new office of the Waqf board.
The ACB reports to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, a representative of the BJP-led government at the Centre. The ACB had sent a notice to Khan to appear for questioning over allegations of illegal appointment in the Delhi Waqf Board. The Waqf Board oversees the administration of Islamic property dedicated to welfare causes.
Saxena had earlier cleared the way for the CBI to prosecute the Delhi Waqf Board Chairman in the case registered against him in 2016.
Media outlets had quoted sources as saying that the prosecution sanction has also been granted against then Waqf Board CEO Mehboob Aalam for offences including “deliberate and criminal violation” of rules, regulations, and law, and “misuse of position” and causing financial losses to the exchequer.
Notably, the sub-divisional magistrate (headquarters) of the revenue department had in November 2016 filed a complaint alleging the “arbitrary and illegal” appointments by Khan to various existing and non-existing posts in the Waqf Board.
