New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh Police Friday early morning arrested Vyapam scam whistleblower Dr Anand Rai from Delhi over a case filed by Laxman Singh Markam, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in connection with a case of alleged fraud.
Soon after he was detained by the Crime Branch police, Rai took to Twitter and said, “I have been taken in custody by Crime Branch Bhopal from Delhi. All workers, well-wishers reach Bhopal.” In his tweet, he also tagged Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Vivek Tankha.
“Rai was arrested from Delhi shortly after Thursday midnight,” Bhopal Crime Branch Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivpal Singh Kushwaha told PTI.
Rai is being brought to Bhopal, he added. Sources said Rai had gone to Delhi to move the Supreme Court for a relief in the case registered against him. On Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court had dismissed his plea seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against him by Markam.
Earlier on March 27, Markan had lodged a police complaint against the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief spokesman K K Mishra and Rai and alleged that they had fabricated screenshots and shared them on social media to implicate him in the P-TET exam paper leak.
The examination was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Karmachari Chayan Aayog (Staff Selection Board), which was earlier known as the Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal (Vyapam). A screenshot of the leaked question-cum-answer sheet had gone viral on social media platforms, in which the name of one Laxman Singh was visible.
The Vyapam scam had come to light in 2011. The Central Bureau of Investigation had taken over the probe into the mega recruitment and admission scandal after a Supreme Court order in 2015.
