New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry Friday said the precautionary doses will now be available for the 18+ population group from April 10 at private vaccination centres.

It added, “Those who are 18 years of age and have completed nine months after the administration of second dose, would be eligible for precaution dose at private vaccination centres.”

The ministry added, “The ongoing free vaccination programme through government vaccination centres for first and second dose to the eligible population as well as precaution dose to healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60+ population would continue and would be accelerated.”

This comes in the backdrop of the Centre’s recent decision to revoke the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for Covid containment measures in the country. According to the reports, the Home Ministry has decided to end all Covid-19 containment measures from March 31. Meanwhile, wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing norms will continue as earlier.

The move to this effect was announced almost two years after their implementation following the outbreak of the pandemic. On March 24, 2020, the Centre had issued orders and guidelines under the Disaster Management Act, (DM Act) 2005 and since then, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Ministry of Home Affairs has been issuing Orders and Guidelines under the Disaster Management Act, (DM Act) 2005, for the containment of Covid-19 in the country.
