Lucknow: On Tuesday, a court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, declared former Member of Parliamnet and actor Jaya Prada an “absconder” in connection with two cases of election code violations and directed the police to apprehend her, presenting her before the court on March 6.
Senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari disclosed that two cases had been filed against the former Rampur MP at Kemari and Swar police stations for purportedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Jaya Prada contested as the BJP candidate from Rampur in the 2019 polls but was defeated by Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party. Previously, she had been elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur in 2004 and 2009 on a Samajwadi Party ticket, though later expelled from the party.

Despite numerous summonses issued by the special MP-MLA court, Jaya Prada failed to appear. Consequently, non-bailable warrants were issued against her seven times, yet law enforcement failed to present her in court.
According to Tiwari, police reports indicated that Jaya Prada was evading arrest, with all her known mobile numbers switched off. In response, Judge Shobhit Bansal took a firm stance, officially labeling Jaya Prada as an absconder.
The Rampur Superintendent of Police was instructed to assemble a team, led by a circle officer, to arrest Jaya Prada and present her in court on the scheduled hearing date of March 6.
