New Delhi: In a significant development for the residents of Himachal Pradesh, devotees traveling to Prayagraj will now have direct train connectivity to the city of confluence.
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, announced on Friday that the Indian Railways has approved the extension of the Indore-Chandigarh Express all the way to Una, Himachal Pradesh.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the approval, Thakur highlighted the importance of better connectivity for the development of Devbhoomi and facilitating pilgrimages. He said, “Prayagraj, the city of confluence, is a major religious site, and a large number of people from Himachal undertake pilgrimages there. However, travelers faced difficulties due to the lack of direct train connectivity from Himachal to Prayagraj.”
Thakur further explained the schedule of the extended train service, stating, “Train number 19307/08, Indore-Chandigarh Express, will depart from Indore at 5:30 in the morning and arrive in Una at 8:35 the next morning. Similarly, it will depart from Una at 1:50 in the afternoon and reach Indore at 3:05 in the afternoon the next day.”

Highlighting other recent developments in the region, Anurag Thakur mentioned, “The Railway Minister has extended the train from Una, Himachal Pradesh to Saharanpur till Haridwar following my request. Additionally, approvals for infrastructural improvements such as the construction of a bridge over the Chakki River and restoration of rail tracks between Kangra and Nurpur have been obtained.”
Thakur emphasised the commitment of the Modi government towards development, stating, “The Modi government is working diligently, from introducing new trains to developing essential infrastructure, to ensure that there are no connectivity issues in Himachal Pradesh. For the fiscal year 2023-24, Rs 1838 crore has been allocated for railway expansion in Himachal Pradesh.”
Regarding future projects, Thakur said, “The Una-Hamirpur railway line, which will enhance religious and tourism activities in the state and benefit the youth serving in the Indian Army and paramilitary forces, is set to receive contributions from both the Himachal Pradesh government and the Central government for its construction.”
The approval for the extension of the Indore-Chandigarh Express to Una, Himachal Pradesh, marks a significant step towards improving connectivity and facilitating travel for the residents of the region, particularly for pilgrimages to Prayagraj.
