Chennai: Ahead of the impending announcement of Lok Sabha election dates, sources indicate that the DMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, has finalized a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress and Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM).
According to sources, the Congress is set to receive ten seats in the agreement. An official announcement is expected following a scheduled meeting between the Congress and the DMK this evening. “Our team is scheduled to meet the Chief Minister at 6 pm. We anticipate securing a total of ten seats,” revealed a senior Congress leader to NDTV.
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s party has been allocated one seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha polls. Haasan emphasized his alignment with the DMK-led alliance for the nation’s welfare, stating, “I will not be contesting. My association with the DMK-led alliance is solely for the betterment of the country, not for any personal gain.”

Expressing full support for the alliance, Haasan conveyed his sentiments after a meeting with the Chief Minister at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters in Chennai.
MNM is poised to actively campaign for the alliance across the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the singular segment in Puducherry, as per sources.
In the allocation of seats, Mr. Stalin’s party has designated two seats each to the Communist Party of India and CPIM, along with one seat each to the Indian Union Muslim League and the Kongu Desa Makkal Katchi. Additionally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has also secured two seats.
DMK has been diligently working towards an agreement with the Congress, an ally in the INDIA bloc, with whom it has secured significant victories in the 2019 general and 2021 state elections. Recognized as a key proponent of the INDIA alliance, M K Stalin’s DMK aims to replicate the sweeping success of 2019.
