The arrest warrant against Sweta Khan, accused of running a pornographic film racket in West Bengal’s Howrah district, has taken a political turn after purported pictures of her with top Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders surfaced on social media. The visuals, including those with party veterans and ministers, have triggered a fierce backlash from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of shielding the accused and failing to uphold women’s safety in the state.
According to police, Sweta Khan and her son allegedly operated a film production unit from their Domjur residence, where soft porn reels were filmed. They went into hiding last week after a woman lodged a complaint accusing them of detaining and brutally assaulting her for refusing to act in adult films.
TMC Faces Heat as BJP Alleges Political Protection for Accused
A Facebook profile under the name Sweta Khatoon, which is now viral, purportedly shows the accused posing with several TMC leaders at party events, including iftar gatherings.
The account’s bio claims she “works at TMC” and features a cover photo with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, her nephew and party MP. Other images show her with state minister Arup Roy, MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and ex-minister Rajib Banerjee.
Reacting to these revelations, BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal said, “One thing is clear in this entire episode: the accused are very close to the Trinamool Congress.

Several images of the woman with TMC leaders are available online. Despite such serious allegations, no arrests have been made. This is a complete breakdown of law and order.”
While the Trinamool Congress is yet to make an official statement, the controversy has deepened the political crisis surrounding the case.
Victim Brutally Tortured After Refusing to Join Porn Racket, Say Police
The gravity of the case escalated after it was revealed that a 23-year-old woman from Sodepur was confined for nearly six months and subjected to extreme torture. The woman’s hands, feet, and teeth were broken, and her family alleged that the accused attempted to insert an iron rod into her private parts after she refused to participate in pornographic filming or work as a bar dancer.
Currently battling for her life at Sagor Dutta Medical College and Hospital, the survivor has reportedly suffered injuries across her body. Investigators now suspect that the accused may have been running a sex trafficking racket under the cover of an event management agency.
The police said, “The accused woman and her son are absconding and a search for them has been launched. We are trying to probe whether they were running any pornography film racket in the veil of running an event management agency.”
The search operation for the mother-son duo continues as the case attracts national attention and fuels a deeper conversation around crime, political nexus, and women’s safety in Bengal.
