The civic body started eviction drive after the Deli BJP president Adesh Gupta wrote a letter to Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation to identify and raze with bulldozers construction on land illegally occupied by Jahangirpuri “rioters” as soon as possible. The Civic Body, while issuing an order, announced to start demolition of properties which have been constructed on illegally occupied land.

Early morning, as many as nine bulldozers were seen rolling out in Jahangirpuri area and starting razing illegally constructed structures. The drive was being carried out amid huge presence of police and para-military personnel so there could no threat to law and order situation. Early morning, a special Commissioner rank official along with large number of police persons took stock of situation. They claimed to deploy adequate force on ground to avert any untoward situation. The civic agency had sought 400 policemen on ground to start eviction drive.

Mayor, however, termed it as a ‘routine exercise’. Meanwhile, timing of the drive is being question as many alleging it a ‘politically motivated’ move by the municipal body.
