A stampede at Bandra railway station in Mumbai left nine individuals injured as a large crowd attempted to board a train bound for Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The incident, which occurred early in the morning, was attributed to the heightened passenger traffic in anticipation of the Diwali festival.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the train, designated as number 22921, was scheduled to arrive at platform number 1 at 5:10 AM. However, due to rescheduling, it arrived late, leading to a chaotic scene as passengers gathered on the platform in significant numbers. Witnesses reported that the rush began around 3 AM, with many trying to board the general compartment of the train, which ultimately caused the stampede.

Among the injured, the condition of seven individuals is reported to be stable, while two others sustained critical injuries. Emergency responders were seen carrying injured passengers on stretchers, with some images showing blood on the platform and distress among those present. One video captured a railway officer assisting an injured passenger, while another depicted two men lying on the ground, blood staining their clothes.

Additional footage revealed rescuers using makeshift stretchers to transport injured individuals out of the station. One man was seen seated on a bench with a torn shirt, visibly in pain.

The BMC confirmed that the situation was under control and that the injured were promptly taken to Bhabha Hospital for treatment. Among the injuries reported, one passenger suffered a spinal fracture, while others experienced leg fractures. Notably, two of the injured have since been discharged from the hospital, according to sources.

As the festive season approaches, authorities are urging travelers to exercise caution during busy travel periods to prevent similar incidents in the future.
