Delhi BJP had demanded action against the minister for participating in the event.
New Delhi: Following the protest over presence at a religious conversion event, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam on Sunday resigned from the cabined. Controversy was sparked after Gautam was witnessed in an event where oath was administered to denounce Hindu deities. Since the video went viral which showed the Delhi minister participating in the oath from the stage, opposition BJP was demanding his resignation. The opposition party leaders staged protests at several places for removal of the minister.
Announcing his resignation, Rajendra Pal Gautam tweeted, “Today is the manifestation day of Maharishi Valmiki ji and on the other hand it is also the death anniversary of Manyavar Kanshi Ram Saheb. In such a coincidence, today I have been freed from many shackles and today I have been born again. Now I will continue to fight for rights and atrocities on the society more firmly without any restrictions.”
Earlier, Delhi BJP had demanded action against the minister for participating in the event. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta had said, “Once again the anti-Hindu face of AAP was exposed. Arvind Kejriwal’s minister is making people take oath that I will not believe in any Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh. So what do you go to temples to show during elections? Does Hinduism sting so much in AAP’s eyes? Why so much hate?”
He had further said, “The anti-Hindu cabinet minister of Delhi government who insulted Hindu gods and goddesses among thousands of people is not forgivable. Are AAP ministers allowed to spew such venom towards any religion? Arvind Kejriwal if there is any shame left then sack such minister.”
