During his funeral, thousands of Netaji supporters thronged at the venue to pay last respect to their beloved leader. The supporters, who started reaching the village on Monday evening, remembered Netaji’s death with teary eyes.
Saifai: A day after his death at a Gurugram hospital, veteran leader Mulayam Singh Yadav’s funeral was held in his native place in Etawah district’s Saifai on Tuesday. The UP government had announced the state funeral of the socialist leader with honours amid presence of top leaders from various political parties. The UP government has also announced a three-day state mourning.
Among the leaders who were present during the last rites of Mulayam Singh Yadav were Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Defence Minister and former CM of the state Rajnath Singh, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel former Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, etc. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Congress’s Kamal Nath from Madhya Pradesh were also among the attendees.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan also attended the last rites of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Amitabh’s father had good relations with Netaji while his wife Jaya Bachchan is Rajya Sabha MP from the ticket of the Samajwadi Party. Earlier in the day, UP Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya had reached at Akhilesh Yadav’s home to pay their last respect to the veteran leader.

They walked in the procession from the family house to the cremation grounds to mark their respect for the samajwadi icon. His supporters chanted “Netaji amar rahein” through his last journey.
Mulayam Singh Yadav had founded Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and became state CM on three occasions. He also held the portfolio of India’s Defence Minister during the third front’s government in the country. Yadav was not running well for the last few months and about 10 months back he was admitted at Gurugram’s Medanta Hospital where he breathed his last on Monday morning.
Mulayam Singh Yadav worked as a teacher in Uttar Pradesh before joining politics. In 1992, he formed Samajwadi Party and handed over the baton to son Akhilesh a few years ago due to illness. He was eight time MLA in UP assembly and seven times MP. He was three times chief minister of UP and had also his son, Akhilesh state’s chief minister.
