Kota: A Mahashivratri procession in Rajasthan’s Kota turned tragic after fourteen children suffered electric shock on Friday, said authorities. Two of the children are reported to be in critical condition, as confirmed by state Health Minister Heeralal Nagar.
The incident happened during a procession, which is an integral part of the Mahashivratri celebrations, when the children received an electric shock. They were swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, as per the statements from the police.
Distressing visuals captured by the news agency ANI showed the frantic scenes as the injured children were brought into the emergency rooms for urgent treatment.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, Health Minister Heeralal Nagar said, “It’s a very sad incident. Two children are seriously injured with one having 100 per cent burns. A special team has been formed to provide all possible treatment. Officials are directed to investigate if there has been any kind of negligence.”
According to news agency PTI, a high-tension overhead power line might be the cause behind the electric shock. The severity of the injuries varies among the affected children, with the two critical cases suffering burns of 50 per cent and 100 per cent, respectively, while others sustained less than 50 per cent burns.
Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident and ensure necessary measures are in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.
