In a letter dated April 20, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) had said, “Consequent to a security review based on current threat assessment, the competent authority has approved the withdrawal of security.”
Among those who had lost their cover then are former ministers Bibi Jagir Kaur, Madan Mohan Mittal, Surjit Kumar Rakhra, Sucha Singh Chottepur, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Tota Singh, and Gulzar Singh Ranike.
Family members of big names such as Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurdarshan Brar, IPS Gurdarshan Singh and Udaybir Singh, son of former cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, had to lose their security covers.

Earlier on April 23, Bhagwant Mann government had withdrawn the security cover provided to 184 persons, including former ministers, MLAs and private protectees.

Former IPL chief Rajeev Shukla, BJP’s star campaigner for the Punjab Assembly election Mahi Gill and former DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay’s son Sidhant had lost their security cover in the April 20 order.
The Punjab Police had on March 11 ordered the withdrawal of security cover of 122 former ministers and MLAs. Those who lost their security cover were Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Manpreet Singh Badal, Raj Kumar Verka, Brahm Mohindra, and Sangat Singh Gilzian and, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and others had also lost their security covers. Former speaker K P Singh was also in the list.
