In a dramatic development, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed today that there is an ongoing attempt to frame the driver instead of the 17-year-old who allegedly caused a fatal accident while overspeeding in a Porsche in Pune.

Kumar said efforts were made immediately after the crash to switch drivers to protect the minor from legal trouble.

“It is true that initially the driver claimed he was driving the car. We are investigating this and also under whose pressure the driver made that statement,” Kumar said during a press conference. “Effort was made to change the driver during that period. We are investigating this also.”

Commissioner Kumar refuted earlier reports suggesting that the driver was at the wheel, asserting that the video footage confirms the 17-year-old was driving the luxury car.

“We have CCTV footage of him drinking liquor in the pub. Our case is not solely dependent on the blood report; we have other evidence as well,” Kumar added.

“He (the minor accused) was in his senses. It was not as if all of them were so drunk that they could not understand anything. They had full knowledge that due to their conduct, an incident like section 304 can happen.”

Police sources also indicated that, minutes after the accident, the parents of the accused attempted to bribe the driver to take the blame in exchange for cash.

The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The 17-year-old, celebrating his Class 12 results with friends in two pubs in Pune, allegedly mowed down two IT professionals in the Kalyani Nagar area.

Aneesh Awadhiya, 24, who was riding the bike, was sent flying into a parked car, while Ashwini Koshta, 25, who was riding pillion, was flung 20 feet into the air. Both victims died on the spot.

The incident has sparked a major investigation, as authorities seek to uncover the full extent of the attempted cover-up and ensure justice for the victims.
