The Army had captured one terrorist while two others were killed in a landmine blast.
New Delhi: A captured terrorist, who was held earlier too in 2017 but sent back on humanitarian grounds, was paid 30,000 Pakistani rupees by a colonel of the Pakistan Army to attack an Indian post on August 21, the Indian Army said on Wednesday.
The Army has captured one terrorist while two others were killed in a landmine blast in a separate incident of infiltration bid. The Indian Army foiled a total of two infiltration bids in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district in two days.
The infiltrator was captured on the morning of August 21 after Indian Army soldiers who are deployed in the Jhangar sector of Nowshera region “spotted movement of two to three terrorists on own side of Line of Control”, said a statement issued by the Indian Army. The Army added that one of the infiltrators was close to the Indian post and was trying to cut a fence. “When he tried to flee, the soldiers opened fire”, injured and captured him, the force said.
There were two other infiltrators who managed to run back into Pakistan-occupied territory. “The injured Pakistani terrorist was captured alive and provided with immediate medical aid and lifesaving surgery was carried out,” said the army.
The captured infiltrator was identified as Tabarak Hussain, a resident of Sabzkot village of the Kotli district of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian Army said during his interrogation, Hussain revealed that he was “sent by Colonel Yunus Chaudhry of Pakistan intelligence agency”.
Hussain was a part of the team that carried out recce of the forward posts of the Indian Army and on August 21, he received a green signal from his handlers to attack a post.
“Incidentally, the individual was earlier captured by Indian Army from the same sector in 2016 along with his brother Haroon Ali, and was repatriated on humanitarian grounds in November 2017,” said the Army note.
A day later, on August 22, a group of around two-three terrorists tried to enter through the Lam sector. “Our alert troops were able to observe the terrorists,” said the Indian Army. It added, “As they moved ahead into our minefields, a series of mines got activated and two terrorists got eliminated on the spot.” The Army said their accomplices, possibly injured, might have gone back “taking advantage of the inclement weather and dense foliage”.
Using a quadcopter, the bodies of the killed terrorists were spotted the next morning and one AK-56 rifle, besides bullets and ration were also found near the spot. “As the area is heavily mined, the search operation is being carried out carefully and is still under progress. More recoveries in the area are expected,” the Indian Army further said.
