Annie Altman, the younger sister of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has filed a lawsuit accusing her brother of sexually abusing her for nearly a decade during their childhood. The lawsuit alleges that the abuse occurred between 1997 and 2006 at their family home in Missouri, beginning when Annie was just three years old.

Sam Altman, widely known for leading OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, has categorically denied the allegations, calling them “utterly untrue.”

Details of the Allegations

According to Annie Altman’s lawsuit, she endured sexual abuse “several times per week,” leading to “severe emotional distress, mental anguish, and depression.” The legal filing requests a jury trial and compensation of $75,000.

Annie had previously made similar allegations on social media in 2021 but had not pursued legal action until now.

In response to the lawsuit, Sam Altman issued a joint statement on X (formerly Twitter), signed by his mother, Connie, and younger brothers, Max and Jack.

“Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being. Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is very difficult,” the statement read.

The Altman family revealed that they have provided Annie with financial support over the years, including paying her rent and offering to buy her a house through a trust to ensure her stability.

“Despite this, Annie continues to demand more money from us,” the statement alleged. “Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, especially Sam.”

Legal Implications

The lawsuit has drawn widespread attention, given Sam Altman’s high-profile role in the tech industry. A report by CNBC highlighted the emotional and financial toll outlined in Annie’s allegations.

The legal process now moves to the courts, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their cases. Annie has requested a jury trial, which could lead to significant public scrutiny.

Broader Impact

The allegations have raised discussions about familial disputes and mental health, particularly in the context of high-stakes public and private lives.

As the situation develops, the Altman family’s statement emphasizes their continued support for Annie, while firmly denying her claims. The case is expected to unfold over the coming months, potentially reshaping public perception of one of the tech industry’s most prominent figures.
