Odisha Couple Humiliation | A young couple from Kanjamajhira village in Odisha’s Rayagada district was subjected to public humiliation by a mob for marrying in defiance of local customs. The couple, who are related, tied the knot recently, which some villagers deemed unacceptable due to traditional taboos around such unions.
In a disturbing incident that was filmed and widely shared on social media, the couple was tied to a wooden yoke—typically used for oxen—and forced to drag it across a field. The video also shows two men beating the couple with sticks as they performed the punishment.

Rayagada Superintendent of Police S Swati Kumar confirmed on Friday that a police team has visited the village to investigate the matter. “A case will be registered soon,” she said.
This incident comes months after a similar case in the same district, where 40 members of a family were forced to shave their heads as part of a purification ritual when a woman married a man from another caste.
