Massive protests have erupted across Karnataka following the brutal stabbing of Neha Hiremath, the 23-year-old daughter of a Congress corporator, in an alleged case of “love jihad.” Neha was stabbed seven times by Fayaz Khondunaik after she reportedly rejected his advances.
“On behalf of my son, I seek forgiveness from all people of Karnataka. I seek forgiveness from the parents of the girl as well. She is also like my daughter. I am not differentiating here at all. I know how they must be grieving. I am equally sorrowful. What my son did is wrong. No matter who it is, what is done is wrong,” Mumtaz, Fayaz’s mother, was quoted as saying by NDTV.
The incident has become a focal point for political debate, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Neha’s father, Niranjan Hiremath, claiming it reflects a breakdown of law and order in the state. However, the state government has dismissed allegations of “love jihad,” asserting that it is an isolated incident.

Niranjan Hiremath expressed anguish over his daughter’s tragic death, highlighting the increasing prevalence of such incidents and expressing hope that no one else would suffer a similar fate. He alleged that Neha had been threatened by Fayaz and his associates prior to the attack.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested Fayaz Khondunaik, the main accused of the Neha Hiremath murder, and launched an investigation into the case. Fayaz’s mother, Mumtaz, issued a public apology on behalf of her son, acknowledging his wrongdoing and expressing remorse for Neha’s death.
Neha Hiremath was a first-year Master of Computer Applications student at BV Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology in Hubballi. The CCTV footage captured the chilling moment when Fayaz attacked Neha inside the campus, stabbing her multiple times before fleeing the scene.
The murder of Neha Hiremath has sparked outrage and demands for stringent punishment for Fayaz. Protests have spread across the state, with citizens calling for justice and expressing solidarity with Neha’s family. The tragic incident has reignited discussions about the safety of women and the prevalence of violence in society.
